MANILA, Philippines — Companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been invited to explore the potential in New Clark City by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

From February 9 to 13, the BCDA will be part of the Philippine delegation to the United Arab Emirates for the Philippines’ National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai.

BCDA officer-in-charge and chief executive officer Aristotle Batuhan said in a statement Monday that the BCDA took advantage of the opportunity to join the Philippine delegation in Dubai because face-to-face business engagements “don’t come very often” during the pandemic.

According to Batuhan, BCDA touted New Clark City as the country’s future smart, sustainable, and inclusive metropolis where UAE corporations might develop and set up shop on the sidelines of Expo 2020 Dubai.

“Overall, the BCDA’s trip to Dubai was fruitful since we were able to contact investors and promote New Clark City as a desirable business destination,” he said.

New Clark City, in Central Luzon, is part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” program, which aims to create an alternative government center and economic magnet outside of Metro Manila. The National Capital Region will also be decongested as a result of this initiative.

The BCDA believes that by asking UAE enterprises to invest in New Clark City, the country will be able to benefit from Dubai’s expertise in infrastructure construction and urban planning.

Several UAE firms have shown interest in exploring investment potential in the Philippines, according to BCDA senior vice president Arrey Perez.

“These are still the subject of exploratory discussions.” He speculated that they might be interested in partnering with us or a private company.
