MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The town of Malasiqui is located in the province of Pangasinan Beginning February 21, 77 public schools in the Ilocos Region have joined the expanded restricted face-to-face (F2F) sessions.

The schools are in addition to the 20 that trialled the restricted F2F in the region in November 2021, according to Pedro Jose Cudal, planning officer of the Department of Education (DepEd) Ilocos regional office.

According to him, 32 schools are located in Ilocos Norte, 39 in Pangasinan, and six in Ilocos Sur.

“Some have already expanded their grade level coverage as before, the pilot locations for limited F2F only covered kindergarten to grade 3, but today, depending on the school’s capabilities, they may cover kindergarten to grade 12,” Cudal said.

These schools have been validated as compliance with the standards of the school safety assessment tool, according to DepEd Ilocos regional office education program supervisor Johnson Sunga, and the Alert Level should be between 1 and 2.

“We may now introduce restricted F2F classes because we are under Alert Level 2,” he stated.

In the limited F2F classes, according to Sunga, parameters are being implemented.

“Schools are granted freedom in contact time for teaching and learning provided that meals are not consumed in school, particularly lunch, because they might converse in communal eating,” he continued.

Only vaccinated teachers are allowed to participate, according to Sunga, while inoculated students are preferred but not obligatory.

Meanwhile, 13 Pangasinan schools have applied for the expanded limited F2F sessions, but they are still being validated.
