The local government in this city plans to develop an easy-to-use coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) home testing kit so residents may check on their health whenever they choose.

In a phone interview on Sunday, city information office chief Aileen Refuerzo said Mayor Benjamin Magalong Jr. is pushing for the adoption of antigen self-test kits to help speed up the discovery and management of Covid-19 cases while avoiding the need for residents to visit health facilities.

“Our city might be the pilot site for these do-it-yourself testing kits, which are widely used in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Singapore,” Refuerzo said, adding that the launch will take place this week.

The city has conducted 316,231 tests so far.

The city began 2022 with 18 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total number of current cases to 64.

Vaccination registration for youngsters aged 5 to 11 has already begun in the city.

“Ang vaccine ng mga maliliit na bata na sa national kaya sinimulan na natin maglista para pag nag-rollout, ready na tayo,” she added.

As of December 30, 2021, the city had achieved a full immunization rate of 63.55 percent among those aged 12 to 17, or 27,207 out of a target of 42,811.

The adult population is already 91.10 percent vaccinated, or 255,997 people out of the 281,000 who are eligible.

On Tuesday, vaccinations will resume.
