Ukraine-Russia discussions will take place on Thursday, mediated by Turkey.

KYIV โ€“ High-level Russia-Ukraine discussions are likely to take place in Turkey on Thursday, thanks in part to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s efforts, Ukrainian media said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced that he will meet with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov at a negotiation table in Antalya, Turkey, according to the Ukrainian news outlet UNIAN.

“The meeting, scheduled for March 10, would be made possible, in part, by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, according to UNIAN, who was speaking on the sidelines of Turkey’s Antalya Diplomacy Forum. “I’m not sure if (Turkish President Recep Tayyip) Erdogan persuaded (Russian President Vladimir) Putin or Lavrov, but the meeting will happen.”

For the past two years, Kuleba claims that Lavrov has avoided meeting with him individually or as part of the Normandy Quartet “Now that he’s consented, it’s possible that he’s trying to communicate something. We’ll listen, but I’ll approach him with the knowledge that Lavrov is one of the architects of Ukraine’s aggression.”

When asked if the Russian-occupied Crimea and Donbas will be mentioned during the conference, Kuleba stated that Ukraine is unable to give anything up in the negotiations.

The three-day Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which will take place in the Turkish resort city of the same name, will begin on Friday, with the Russian-Ukrainian conference taking place the day before.

Ankara would “continue to make efforts for a permanent peace,” Cavusoglu said earlier, expressing hope that the summit “will be a turning point” and “major step” toward peace and stability.

International condemnation of Russia’s assault on Ukraine, which began on February 24, has resulted in financial penalties on Moscow. This prompted a mass departure of international corporations from Russia.

According to the UN, at least 474 civilians have been killed and 861 injured in Ukraine since the start of the conflict, while conditions on the ground make it difficult to verify the exact figure.

According to the UN refugee agency, 2 million people have fled to neighboring nations.
