Ramon Lopez, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said there is no shortage of paracetamol on the local market, and the limited availability is due to delivery challenges.

“Some brands may experience a brief supply shortage.” But it’s due to the timing of delivery to replace the stocks in these drugstores’ branches,” Lopez said in a text message to reporters on Tuesday.

He stated that Unilab-owned items such as Biogesic and Decolgen “may be experiencing temporary out of stock issues” in drugstores due to the manufacturer’s December delivery cutoff.

According to Lopez, deliveries of these paracetamol and analgesic brands will begin this week.

He went on to say that different brands of paracetamol are plentiful and that generic alternatives are also available.

“There is no scarcity because there are alternative brands of paracetamol on the market,” the DTI director stated.

Avoid making hasty purchases.

The DTI would urge drugstores to limit the purchase of paracetamol to minimize panic buying, according to Lopez.

The agency is still working out the details of the paracetamol purchase limit per consumer.

Apart from a shortage of some brands, Lopez claims that paracetamol prices should not be an issue.

Lopez also urged customers to report profiteers to the DTI due to a temporary supply shortage of particular paracetamol brands.

“(We asked) consumers to make a complaint as soon as possible and provide specifics (about), such profiteers,” he said. “And our recommendation to consumers is to purchase from reputed drugstores to assure a fair price based on the SRP (recommended retail price).”
