In the midst of a transportation strike, MMDA vans will ferry passengers.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will send at least 20 cars to help offset the consequences of a planned transportation strike on Tuesday.

MMDA General Manager Romando Artes said in a statement on Monday that contingency plans will be put in place to offer service to commuters.

“Agency buses and trucks will be prepositioned to provide commuters with free transportation to the EDSA bus carousels.” “Vehicles will be marked with Libreng Sakay (Free Rides) signage so that the public can easily identify them,” Artes stated.

There are 11 commuter vans, six buses, and three military trucks among the 20 vehicles.

He stated that the MMDA Metrobase will use closed-circuit television cameras in important roadways to monitor the commuter situation in order to dispatch vehicles quickly.

To help motorists and commuters, traffic and road emergency group personnel will be deployed.

The Pasig River Ferry Service, which runs Monday through Saturday, can be used as an alternative form of transportation, according to the MMDA.

On Tuesday, the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide launched a strike to demand that rising fuel and other products prices be controlled, the oil deregulation law, an excise tax on oil be repealed, and the minimum wage is raised.

Members of the group were urged to congregate along Espaa Boulevard in Manila, in various terminals, communities, and gas stations.
