The DTI has a roster of over 16K delivery riders that are eligible for a fuel subsidy.
MANILA, Philippines — A total of 16,233 delivery riders from four last-mile delivery service (LMDS) platforms are eligible for the government’s fuel subsidy to help offset the impact of rising oil costs.
Ireneo Vizmonte, head of staff and Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said the agency has submitted a list of licensed delivery riders who are eligible for fuel subsidies to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
“Iyong mga last-mile delivery service provider, ito ay ginagawa natin in conjunction with platforms.” We’re doing this in collaboration with platforms, those that supply last-mile delivery services.) In a radio interview on Friday, Vizmonte stated, “We acquire the names from them and verify those certified independent riders).”
The DTI got the list of independent riders from LMDS providers and verified it to ensure that no names from the four LMDS platforms were duplicated.
Independent riders, according to Vizmonte, are individuals who have no employer-employee relationship with the LMDS enterprises.
“Sa delivery riders, they’re looking into providing it through e-wallet because they already have that to receive their subsidy,’di na kailangan ng bagong card (For delivery riders, they’re looking into providing it through e-wallet since they already have that to receive their subsidy).” As a result, no new cards are required),” he noted.
Drivers of public utility vehicles would receive a credit of PHP6,500 on their Pantawid Pasada cards.
The LTFRB previously said that delivery riders may receive subsidies of less than PHP6,500.
After global oil prices averaged USD80 per barrel for three months in a row, the government set aside PHP2.5 billion for fuel subsidies this year.
The price of a barrel of oil in the worldwide market has surpassed USD100.
Due to the rising cost of oil, the government recommended doubling the fuel subsidy for the transportation, agriculture, and fisheries sectors. (
