3.9K people have been displaced as a result of the Taal disturbance.

MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced on Monday that the Taal Volcano’s ongoing unrest has harmed 3,850 people so far.

According to the agency’s most recent situation report, this equates to more than 1,000 households living in 14 barangays in the Batangas towns of Agoncillo and Laurel.

3,460 people, or 956 families, are currently housed in 16 evacuation facilities, while 201 people, or 54 families, are receiving assistance outside.

Due to a phreatomagmatic eruption, which occurs when magma and water combine, Taal Volcano’s alert status was elevated to Level 3 (magmatic unrest) on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) is keeping a close eye on regions where citizens have been forced to flee because of the unrest in Taal.

PRO 4A director Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra said in a statement that they are on high alert to maintain peace and order during the disaster.

Around 1,718 personnel of the Regional Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) are on standby to help with rescue and relief efforts in Agoncillo, Laurel, Balete, Talisay, and Cuenca, according to Yarra.

In response to the seismic activity of the Taal Volcano, the Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed 113 cops on Monday to secure and enforce minimal public health safety standards in evacuation shelters in Batangas.

Police officers were stationed in evacuation centers to maintain peace and order, as well as to guarantee that necessary health protocols were followed, according to the PNP.

Some members of the Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have been deployed as well.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology lists Taal as one of the 24 active volcanoes in the country.

In terms of frequent eruptions, it is the second most active volcano on the planet.

Due to its proximity to Metro Manila, it has become a popular tourist attraction in Batangas.
