The remaining Reds have been urged to surrender and start over.
MANILA, Philippines โ Task Force Balik Loob (TFBL) chair Reynaldo Mapagu reiterated the government’s demand for all surviving communist terrorists to surrender and return to mainstream society as the New People’s Army (NPA) celebrated its 53rd founding anniversary on Tuesday.
“As the communist terrorist organization (CTG) commemorates this day of infamy, we want to encourage the surviving active members to leave the NPA’s life of violence and hardship behind and return to their families,” he stated.
The NPA was founded on March 29, 1969, as the Communist Party of the Philippines’ military wing (CPP).
Mapagu, who is also an Undersecretary of the Department of National Defense, added, “The government is here and ready to support you in starting anew.”
Former rebels (FRs) and former violent extremists will be helped under the TFBL-managed Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) (FVEs).
“E-CLIP benefits are intended to ensure that after they have decided to lay down their guns, they can live quietly and productively,” Mapagu said.
“Our reintegration program gives people concrete remedies to their grievances, which the CTG has never been able to provide or solve despite decades of lies and empty promises.” “We hope they don’t squander this chance,” he continued.
Mapagu expressed optimism that the country’s progress in reintegrating FRs and FVEs into the legal system will continue.
“Today is a celebration of peace and freedom for former rebels, rather than a somber reflection of the NPA’s death and damage.” We hope that, with the help of all Filipinos, our efforts to reintegrate our brothers and sisters would be sustained, allowing the entire country to reap the benefits of peace,” he added.
The United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines have all designated the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA as a terrorist group.
The NDF was officially legally labeled as a terrorist group by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, identifying it as “an integral and inseparable member” of the CPP-NPA, which was established in April 1973.
