DAGUPAN CITY, PHILIPPINES — According to data from the Provincial Health Office, the province of Pangasinan had no new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases for two days in a row over the weekend (PHO).

On Saturday and Sunday, the number of active cases in Pangasinan fell to 14, with one case from Dagupan City, the province’s independent component city.

The province currently has a total of 43,070 confirmed cases since the outbreak began.

Two further recoveries were reported on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 41,725; 1,331 patients have died as a result of Covid-19 problems.

Meanwhile, Rosales has the most active instances, with five patients, followed by Lingayen, the capital, which has two active cases.

In the municipalities of Bani, Binmaley, Mangaldan, Sta. Barbara, Urbiztondo, San Carlos City, and Dagupan City, one active case has been reported.

Despite the fact that Covid-19 instances are on the decline, the provincial government, through the PHO, is advising the public to follow basic health measures in order to avoid a sudden outbreak of illness.

The high vaccination rate in the province was previously attributed to PHO chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman to the continued drop in the number of coronaviruses confirmed cases.

As of March 21, the provincial administration of Pangasinan has fully vaccinated 1.9 million residents or 75.20 percent of the eligible target population.

Three million Pangasinenses received their first dose of coronavirus vaccination, and 1.8 million were fully immunized, according to De Guzman.

She added the remaining Pangasinenses who have not had the vaccines are largely children aged 5 to 11, and some are still afraid of the shot and its negative effects.

Those with comorbidities were unable to obtain clearance, while others were denied vaccinations due to religious beliefs, according to De Guzman.
