DAGUPAN CITY, PHILIPPINES — In an entrapment operation in Barangay Lucao here, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation–Dagupan District Office (NBI-DADO) detained a businesswoman reportedly involved in a PHP27-million “large-scale” estafa.

Jennifer Gumapos, a co-owner of a spa, a real-estate broker, and a resident of Lingayen town, Pangasinan, was identified as the suspect in an interview with NBI-DADO supervisory agent lawyer Fabienne Matib on Tuesday.

According to Matib, the suspect was apprehended after a complaint was filed with the NBI-DADO alleging that she was swindling Procter & Gamble, Jollibee Foods Corporation, and other significant corporations.

Gumapos was apprehended after receiving the boodle money used by officials to entrap the suspect, according to her.

“Sinasabi ng suspect na i-invest ang pera sa stocks at nangangako na 8.5 to 10% na return of investment sa pera ng mga taong naloloko niya,” Matib added.

She stated that the suspect began her swindling activities in October of this year and that more than 20 other complainants are anticipated to appear in court to pursue legal action against Gumapos.

“Kapag lumutang ang iba pang complainants, inaasahan natin na abot sa PHP500 million ang cumulative na perang nakulimbat ng suspect,” she said.

At the Dagupan City Regional Trial Court, the suspect was already the subject of an inquest.

Gumapos is currently in NBI-custody, DADO’s awaiting charges that will be filed in court.
