The number of passengers at NAIA Terminal 4 is expected to reach 1.5 million this year.
MANILA, Philippines — Passengers at the recently reopened Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4 might top 1.5 million per year if domestic carriers operate at full capacity, according to a Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) executive.
The NAIA Terminal 4 was built to accommodate 3 million passengers yearly, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
Following the reopening of Facility 4 on Monday, after being shuttered for nearly two years due to the pandemic, airlines CebGo, AirAsia Philippines, and AirSWIFT commenced operating flights from this domestic terminal.
The MIAA confirmed on Tuesday that CebGo has 14 daily flights via Terminal 4, AirAsia has 11, and AirSWIFT has three.
“Based on the number of routes (at Terminal 4), we estimate that weekly passengers might exceed 30,000 if (these) airline providers operate at full capacity. Annually, the number might approach 1.5 million “Chief of the CAB’s Air Operating Rights Division, Eldric Peredo, said in a press conference.
Since June 2020, MIAA has used NAIA Terminal 3 for domestic operations to save money due to numerous flight cancellations and restrictions caused by the Covid-19 epidemic. Philippine Airlines flights are still scheduled to depart from Terminal 2, while Cebu Pacific’s domestic flights are still scheduled to depart from Terminal 3.
Passengers should observe the health regulations in place in all NAIA terminals, according to Peredo. He advised that face masks be used and that social distance be maintained at all times.
Passengers should additionally indicate if they are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms and their genuine vaccination status, especially if they are traveling to places where local governments are still enforcing restrictions.
“The airlines are assisting the government in adopting these protocols since they are the ones who verify the passengers’ paperwork and determine whether they are eligible to board the plane,” Peredo added.
Peredo, like the airlines that fly out of Terminal 4, advised customers to arrive early to prevent delays and to allow enough time for pre-departure formalities.
In the meanwhile, despite increased gasoline prices, Peredo stated that no airfare increases have yet been enacted. “A fare range is implemented by airlines. The fare has not yet crossed this (range) and has not yet reached the greatest fare range, according to CAB monitoring “he stated
