MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed on Sunday that just a few local NPC officials had already endorsed presidential nominee Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate Sara Duterte.

Sotto, who is also the chair of the NPC and the running mate of independent presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo Lacson, was similarly disappointed by the article saying that the NPC has already backed the UniTeam duo.

“First and foremost, let me state unequivocally that the NPC has not backed any presidential candidate.” While regional and/or provincial chapters may have their own list of preferred candidates, such selections do not reflect the NPC as a nationwide coalition of political allies and people’s organizations “In a message to reporters, he remarked.

“As a result, it’s frustrating how a reputable news organization can use a deceptive title/head to frame a local/provincial story in favor of some politicians,” he added.

“It’s an unacceptable and desperate move to optimize lies and exaggerated optics,” Sotto said, emphasizing that he is the NPC chair.

“We must not allow this to continue, lest the Filipino people’s valued press freedom be misused and abused,” he stated, “Sotto said.

Representative Victor Yap of Tarlac’s 2nd District claimed during the UniTeam protest on Saturday that the province’s NPC leaders support Marcos and Duterte.

In an ambush interview with Radyo Pilipinas, Tarlac Governor Susan Yap, who is also the NPC-Tarlac head and the congressman’s sister, said it is a personal decision and does not imply that the entire party agrees.

At least 14 mayors from Tarlac who are allies of the NPC have endorsed the Marcos-Duterte ticket.
