MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) supplied emergency medical assistance as Baguio City reopened its doors to tourists with the belated celebration of the Panagbenga Festival (EMS).

Due to Covid-19 limits on transportation and public gathering, the city decided to celebrate the world-renowned festival across the entire month of March 2022 instead of the customary February celebration.

Session Road in Bloom, held on March 21-27, was one of the highlights of this year’s Panagbenga Flower Festival, during which the iconic street was closed to traffic and businesses providing a variety of products to locals and tourists.

The Philippine Red Cross Baguio City Chapter set up a station every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. throughout the event to ensure that people were given first aid or evacuated to a hospital in the event of an emergency.

The PRC EMS crew checked the blood pressure of 408 patients, treated five people who had dizziness and nausea, and evacuated one person to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Baguio City is still on Level 1 alert until April 15.

Beginning April 1, the Philippines will welcome foreign tourists from all countries, according to the Department of Tourism’s website.

Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman and CEO of the PRC, thanked everyone for their contributions to the economy but cautioned everyone to follow health safety rules to avoid a revival of Covid-19.

“Kahit sa panahon ng mga kapistahan, ang Red Cross ay nandyan lagi para maghatid ng mga serbisyo sa publiko, kagaya ng first aid at ambulansya,” Gordon remarked.
