Resumption of F2F classes is guaranteed by the Department of Education and the Department of Health.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Department of Education (DepEd) inaugurated the BIDA Kid Campaign in Pasay City on Tuesday to secure the country’s safe return to in-person education.
The campaign, which is being run in collaboration with the Department of Health, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and other stakeholders, encourages students and teachers to get vaccinated, a practice shared action and collaboration, and follow health protocols when they return to their classrooms.
“Best friend natin ang mask, Ingatan at hugasan ang kamay, Dumistansya muna, Airflow ay panatilihin,” says BIDA.
Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma of the Department of Education stated they are working for the increase of in-person programs to aid in the cognitive and social development of students.
“We’re gradually removing the word ‘limited’ from face-to-face classes because we don’t want to associate face-to-face classes with something limited, so inaalis na po natin ngayon ‘yung (we’re now deleting) limited.” So we’re now putting our return to school down to face-to-face lessons, but a progressive one,” he explained.
Increased immunization rates among educators and students, according to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, have led to the implementation of face-to-face sessions.
“We have now reached a stage where we can safely reopen schools to give students with the optimal learning opportunities that face-to-face sessions bring,” Duque said, citing increased Covid-19 vaccine coverage and adherence to safety standards.
According to the Department of Education, a total of 5,779,534 students have been vaccinated against Covid-19, with over 90% of teaching and non-teaching professionals also receiving vaccinations.
Meanwhile, Ryan Washburn, USAID’s Mission Director for the Philippines, the Pacific Islands, and Cambodia, said the BIDA campaign is a critical step in addressing issues like learning gaps, mental health issues, child labor, teenage pregnancy, and increased dropouts that the pandemic has brought to learners in other countries.
He stated that such preventive policies and slogans will aid in the maintenance of a learning environment that is favorable to students as well as the country’s economic revival, while assuring the US’ continuous support for the country.
“To far, the United States has contributed more over PHP1.9 billion to the Philippines’ response to the Covid-19 outbreak and to the government’s efforts to distribute vaccines in high-risk areas. “In the education sector, USAID has been assisting the Department of Education in improving educational outcomes, particularly in the early grades, through its basic education continuity plans,” he stated.
