TESDA and Angkas have launched a program to teach people how to ride a motorcycle.

MANILA, Philippines — On Wednesday, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Angkas, a motorbike ride-hailing company, inaugurated a basic motorcycle driving curriculum aimed at professionalizing motorcycle instruction in the Philippines.

The five-day course, which was co-designed and produced by TESDA and Angkas, will expose motorcycle riders to formal instruction in a 400-square-meter facility at TESDA, as well as a live demonstration.

Pre-ride activities, motorbike performance monitoring, and maintenance will all be part of the program.

“I’ve witnessed firsthand the value of education and training, particularly in this industry. There have been many accidents (in the past) due to a lack of formalized training “During the launch at the TESDA Complex in Bicutan, Taguig, Angkas chief executive officer George Royeca said.

Royeca agreed with the government’s assessment that motorbike ride-hailing is untrustworthy throughout the country. “Because even if ‘habal-habal’ has been around for a long time, it signifies doom without TESDA or training,” he remarked.

Because Angkas has been utilizing the TESDA program as a model, the executive added. “The company was able to demonstrate that if you train Filipinos and are truly committed to training and professionalization, they will become productive citizens of our country,” he said.

The inauguration of this initiative, according to TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapea, is both timely and important. “The training is free, and there is even a stipend. We should urge them (riders) to train since it is important not only for their own safety but also for the protection of others (passengers) “he stated

Because motorcycle-hailing and delivery services are in high demand these days, the TESDA chairman added that taking advantage of the training would help people gain better job possibilities.

In April, the program will be available in TESDA-Metro Manila, with an initial capacity of 25 participants. TESDA and Angkas hope to address the region’s growing number of motorcycle riders by implementing the program in Metro Manila.

According to Royeca, this program will empower and capacitate more motorbike owners, as well as aid in the recovery of the economy. TESDA reports that Angkas has 27,000 certified riders.
