MANILA, Philippines — A health official said Tuesday that the country has enough Covid-19 vaccines if the Food and Drug Administration approves the administration of a second booster shot by the end of April.

“We won’t have any issues with the second booster or fourth dose.” “Ang nasa stock natin, marami pa tayong (In our stock, we have enough) AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Pfizer, and Moderna, as well as a few additional gifts,” said Myrna Cabotaje, chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC).

She noted that the problem is to give the existing vaccine supply because certain brands are due to expire.

A total of 144.3 million vaccinations had been administered as of April 12. Approximately 66.7 million people have been fully immunized, with 12.5 million receiving booster injections.

The NVOC has strengthened its social advocacy by hosting town hall meetings and deploying social mobilizers, particularly in areas with poor vaccination attendance, in order to persuade more people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

According to Cabotaje, the Department of Health has requested to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases that booster doses be included in the definition of fully vaccinated in order to encourage eligible people to get boosted.
