MANILA, Philippines — Senators joined the Christian world in commemorating Holy Week on Thursday, inviting the people to contemplate with loved ones Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, death, and resurrection.

“Magnilay-nilay kasama ang inyong mga mahal sa buhay, habang nasa loob ng tahanan.” Laging tandaan na magsilbi at tumulong sa mga nangangailangan (We should reflect with our loved ones when we are at home.) Senator Sherwin Gatchalian wrote on Facebook, “Always remember to serve and support those in need).”

Senator Grace Poe, like Gatchalian, emphasized that “while we celebrate Holy Thursday,” people should always choose to be nice, modest, and love one another.

“Ginugunita natin ang huling hapunan ni Hesukristo kasama ang kanyang mga disipulo, ngayong Huwebes Santo.” This Holy Thursday, we recall the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples at the paghuhugas ng paa ng kanyang apostoles and ang buong-pusong pagsisilbi sa kapwa. “Our Lord demonstrated his humility and wholehearted service to humanity by washing the feet of his apostles,” Poe added.

Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. stated Jesus demonstrated his willingness to assist the poor by washing his apostles’ feet.

“Magandang paalala sa ating lahat ng kabutihan ng pagbibigay ng sarili at paglilingkod sa ating kapatid na nangangailangan, lalo ngayong pandemya kung kailan marami ang dumaranas ng hirap, ngayong pandemya kung kailan Nawa ay isabuhay natin araw-araw ang halimbawang ipinakita ni Hesus (A good reminder to us of the kindness of offering ourselves and serving those in need, especially in this time of pandemic when many people are suffering). May we all put what Jesus has shown us into practice),” he remarked.

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson wished everyone a holy week that was meaningful and calm.

“Ang ating pananampalataya sa Diyos at ang ating malasakit sa kapwa at sa bansa, pagtibayin natin.” Muli, isang ligtas at payapang Mahal na Araw para sa bawat Pilipino Again, I wish every Filipino a safe and pleasant Holy Week),” Lacson stated in a social media post.

Holy Week, according to Senator Leila de Lima, is a serious moment that allows people to be compassionate and develop their trust in God.

“I pray for redeeming grace for our people and country this Holy Week.” I pray for the liberation of Ukraine from Russia’s unjust invasion and oppression. For the sake of the entire globe, I pray for peace. In a statement, she said, “I pray for justice.”

Senator Risa Hontiveros stated that this Holy Week should be a moment to honor those who have worked to ensure that the country does not go hungry.

“Maundy Thursday is a time to commemorate our farmers, fisherfolk, food manufacturing laborers, and informal sector sellers who have fed us all these years,” she continued, “and to share generously with those who are currently hungry.”

“Continue to stay firm in our faith and know that His unending love will never abandon us,” Senator Nancy Binay said.

“Let us all take advantage of this opportunity for thought and prayer.” Senator Nancy Binay wished everyone a happy Maundy Thursday.

Senator Pia Cayetano advised everyone to continue to follow health and safety measures, especially while venturing out, as she flew her first domestic flight of the year.

“Let us be accountable for the sake of our loved ones, our community, and ourselves.” Have a wonderful and safe week ahead of you. “May God bless you!” she remarked
