LAOAG CITY, PHILIPPINES —The administration of Ilocos Norte is bolstering its collaboration with the state-run Mariano Marcos State University-College of Industrial Technology (MMSU-CIT) to provide free livelihood training to residents of the province.

The province government has provided cash for the project’s implementation this year, according to Elma Gabriel, head of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Office (MSMEO).

“We are partnering with the MMSU-CIT to improve the quality of life of the people by providing livelihood training,” she said, adding that the provincial government will supply training kits for participants, while the university will be responsible for the training site and facilitators.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved Monday Draft Provincial Resolution 2022-04-489, authorizing Gov. Matthew Joseph Manotoc to sign a memorandum of understanding with MMSU president Shirley Agrupis for the project’s formalization.

A four-day training on air-conditioning servicing and troubleshooting for split type units began on Tuesday, April 19 at the CIT Flexible Hub with 30 utility workers, some university faculty, and staff members in order to provide them with skills they can use at home or to earn extra money from repair services.

Other interested individuals from outside the institution may also attend the training session for free by contacting Professor Fairie Ann Domingo, the MMSU-extension CIT’s coordinator.

According to Agrupis, the MMSU is devoted to delivering diverse livelihood training to all individuals in this northern portion of Luzon who is interested.

Other livelihood training, such as food processing, sewing, cooking, and baking, are also available to the public, particularly for returning residents who are resettling in the province after being impacted by the global health crisis.
