MANILA – The National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) hope to name senators and party-list representatives by Tuesday.

As of Saturday, May 14, acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco stated the NBOC had canvassed 86.13 percent of the 173 certificates of canvass (COC).

“We’re sticking to our schedule.” ‘Yan po talaga ang projection namin, even naman po namin sa inyo (That’s our prediction, even if we told you it would be) early next week, and Tuesday is still early next week,” Laudiangco said in a press conference.

He stated that successful senate candidates will be announced ahead of party-list candidates.

“We must separate senatorial proclamations from party-list proclamations in order to maintain minimal public health standards,” he continued.

According to Laudiangco, they are also considering declaring the “top-tier” party lists, or those that they believe will be unaffected by votes still to be relayed.

He added there are 24 COCs still to be canvassed, 19 of them are from foreign service locations.

At least six of these countries will be canvassed when the NBOC commences canvassing on Sunday afternoon, according to Laudiangco: India, Laos, Pakistan, Hungary, Poland, and Chile.

“The COCs of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, the Vatican, Iran, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Syria, and Mexico are still pending,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he stated that after Congress reconvenes on May 23, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates’ votes will be canvassed.
