During the past 24 hours, North Korea recorded 392,920 persons with “fever” and eight deaths due to the outbreak, according to local media.

Since the first case was recorded in late April, the overall number of persons with “fever” has risen to 1.21 million, according to KCNA Watch, which did not specify how many Covid-19 cases have been discovered.

With eight more deaths, the death toll now stands at 50.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over a high-level meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s Political Bureau on Sunday, where they reviewed epidemic preventive measures.

According to KCNA, he chastised the Cabinet and the health sector for the shortage of drugs in Pyongyang pharmacies and ordered an immediate supply of pharmaceuticals from the state reserve.

Meanwhile, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has volunteered to assist by providing vaccines and other essential supplies if Pyongyang accepts.

“We must not delay in offering vital help to the North Korean people who are threatened by the coronavirus,” Yoon said during his first budget speech to the National Assembly, according to Yonhap News Agency.

North Korea reported the country’s first cases of COVID-19 last week and ordered a national curfew.

Since the outbreak began more than two years ago, North Korea is one of the few countries that has not reported any cases.

Since January 2020, North Korea’s preventative approach has centered on a complete border shutdown.

The World Health Organization has no records of any Covid-19 vaccines in the 25-million-strong country, and Pyongyang has repeatedly declined foreign offers of vaccine supply.
