CITY OF DUMAGUETE – For almost two months, no deaths linked to the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) have been reported in this capital city of Negros Oriental.

According to statistics from the City Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), the latest confirmed Covid-19-related fatality occurred in a 94-year-old unvaccinated individual with comorbidities on Monday evening.

The city’s 30 barangays had reported zero occurrences of Covid-19 for around 25 days, according to Dr. Maria Sarah Talla, the city’s health officer.

Meanwhile, the provincial capital had the highest vaccination rate in Central Visayas, at 141.56 percent, above the Department of Health’s goal of 80.67 percent for herd immunity, according to the media release.

In this city, 157,619 people and workers were vaccinated, exceeding the aim of 111,348 for achieving herd immunity.

In recent weeks, Dumaguete City has been placed on Alert Level 1, while Negros Oriental province remains on Alert Level 2.
