MANILA – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced on Tuesday that the dolomite white beach in Manila Bay will reopen on June 3.

The reopening of the Dolomite beach, which was originally set for Friday, May 20, has been postponed for another two weeks, according to PTV’s Balita Ngayon.

The change was made to allow for the completion of other facilities in the area, according to DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones.

The DENR has also announced that it will clean up the area around the US embassy.

Leones previously stated that the rehabilitation of Manila Bay is currently around 80% complete, as the DENR cranks up efforts to reach water quality suitable for leisure activities such as swimming.

However, he stated that the dolomite beach is not yet suitable for such activities, despite the DENR reporting a considerable drop in average coliform levels, which dropped to 21,100 mpn per 100 ml in the third quarter of 2021, from over five million mpn per 100 ml before the pandemic.

Only 500 people will be permitted on the beach at any given moment if it is reopened to the public.
