Marcos and Xi talk about cooperation and regional development.
MANILA – President Xi Jinping of China and probable president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. spoke on the phone Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
Xi added during the call that the two nations should “understand the general trend, tell a magnificent story on the China-Philippines friendship in the new era, and carry out the plan for bilateral friendly cooperation.”
“President Xi urged both countries to carry further their friendship and keep loyal to their initial aim,” the embassy said, citing a Philippine proverb: “If you don’t know where you came from, you can’t move far.”
Xi commended Marcos on his contribution in “the advancement of China-Philippine relations” once again.
“A builder, backer, and advocate of the China-Philippines friendship,” he added.
According to the embassy, the Chinese president called on Wednesday morning.
