The buoy placing operation was accomplished by the PCG’s BRP Corregidor, BRP Bojeador, BRP Suluan, BRP Capones, and Tug Boat Habagat, according to a press release.
The buoys, according to PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu, designate areas as “special protected zones” where mining and oil exploration are prohibited in order to protect the region’s natural resources.
“These buoys have become a source of pride and respect for us as we serve our great country.” And because our fellow Coast Guardians endured countless hazards throughout the said noble mission, the PCG was able to reach the next level of success,” Abu remarked.
More navigational buoys will be erected in other sections of the country’s exclusive economic zone, including the WPS and Benham Rise, he said.
