MANILA – The Senate unanimously adopted two laws on Monday that might have a significant influence on Bulacan’s local economy.

Senator Joel Villanueva expressed gratitude to his colleagues for voting in favor of House Bill No. 10444, or the Act Converting the Municipality of Baliwag in Bulacan into a Component City.

During his manifestation, Villanueva, who is from Bulacan, said, “On behalf of the people of Baliwag, we would want to thank all of you for your support.”

HB 10444 was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressmen Eric Yap, Paolo Duterte, Gavini Pancho, and others.

Villanueva drafted and Senate Committee on Local Government chairperson Francis Tolentino supported a Senate version, Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2462.

Meanwhile, in its second reading, the Senate adopted SBN 7575, which seeks to establish the Bulacan Airport City Special Economic Zone and Freeport.

Senator Imee Marcos, who chairs the Committee on Economic Affairs, said one of the revisions she made was to remove an entire subsection from the draft law that dealt with the construction of gaming enterprises in the area and uncontrolled power production.

“We’re removing it altogether because to concerns about the likelihood of gambling establishments as well as concerns about unregulated electricity production,” Marcos stated.

The Senate passed all of SBN 7575’s specific amendments without opposition.
