PCG has filed a lawsuit against the crew of the MV Happy Hiro after a shipwreck off the coast of Palawan.
Following a collision with a Filipino fishing boat off the coast of Agutaya, Palawan on Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has filed complaints against four crew members of the cargo vessel MV Happy Hiro.
PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday that the complaints were filed with the Antique Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday and contained charges of reckless imprudence resulting in several homicides, multiple injuries, and property damage.
“At yung sinama natin doon sa charges — yung kapitan, second mate, at dalawang cops,” Abu explained.

Following the accident of the MV Happy Hiro with the Filipino fishing vessel FB JOT-18 on Saturday, 13 of the fishing boat’s 20 crew members were recovered, with seven still missing.
He stated that the missing fishermen are not assumed dead and that search and rescue activities are still underway.
According to their findings, MV Happy Hiro collided with FB JOT-18 while anchored after experiencing engine failure.
He also stated that the MV Happy Hiro, which is registered in the Marshall Islands, will not be permitted to leave the nation and may be detained pending the court’s judgment.
On the other hand, based on the enforcement inspection apprehension report issued by PCG Station Antique on the fishing vessel, FB JOT-18 was deemed to have committed infractions and may face fines.
‘Leaving port without PCG clearance’ (PCG MC No. 07-12), which carries a penalty of PHP10,000, and ‘Master’s failure to complete Master Declaration of Safe Departure,’ which carries a penalty of PHP50,000.
