MANILA, Philippines — The Fine Arts Gallery of the National Museum of the Philippines will be temporarily closed beginning June 6 to allow for preparations for the inauguration of the country’s next President.

“The formal announcement of the choice of its National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila as the venue for the inauguration of the 17th President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., on June 30, 2022,” the National Museum of the Philippines stated in a statement over the weekend.

It was also the site of Presidents Manuel L. Quezon (1935), Jose P. Laurel (1943), and Manuel Roxas’ inaugurations (1946).

The museum’s Inauguration Committee will be making special preparations and arrangements for the presidential event, necessitating the temporary closure of the National Museum of Fine Arts until 9 a.m. on July 5, while the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Museum of Natural History will be open as usual “until further notice.”

“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate you for your patience,” the alert stated. “Everyone may rest confident that the #NationalMuseumPH will do everything possible to support the next historic presidential inauguration.”

Marcos’ camp announced Thursday that the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila has been chosen as the venue for the inauguration since it meets their requirements.

The National Museum of Fine Arts, located along Padre Burgos Drive in the ancient Legislative building, is a National Historical Landmark.

It was built in 1926 and reconstructed in 1949 following World War II.

Since the 1970s, the National Museum has “carefully maintained and protected the building as a historically significant structure.”

The biggest public assemblage of Philippine fine arts, accessible to both Filipinos and visitors, is housed within its halls.
