OP contributes P100 million to DavNor Hospital’s Malasakit Center.

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go was present as the Office of the President (OP) presented a PHP100 million cheque to the Malasakit Center at the state-run Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) on Wednesday.

“All I ask of the DRMC authorities is that they assist the underprivileged.” We’ll assist them with their medical needs,” Go said, adding that the funds will be utilized to support Malasakit Center services this year.

According to him, the funds will assist the government hospital in providing medical services and assistance to papers, with a focus on the needs of the poor, sick, aged, crippled, children, and other patients.

According to Dr. Bryan Dalid, the DRMC chief of hospital, the Malasakit Center in DRMC was established in October 2019 and has served more than 50,000 patients in over three years.

According to Dalid, the center received about PHP360 million in funding, including PHP240 million from OP, PHP89 million from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and PHP31 million from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Malasakit Center is a one-stop-shop that brings together numerous entities that provide medical aid, such as the Department of Health, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Philippine Civil Service Organization, and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

After becoming a senator the following year, Go wrote the bill that became Republic Act 11463, also known as the Malasakit Centers Act.

Aid to cancer patients

The opening of the medical linear accelerator (LINAC) donated by the OP was also witnessed by Go.

The apparatus, valued at PHP200 million, is routinely utilized for external beam radiation treatments for cancer patients. It sends high-energy X-rays or electrons to the tumor area in the patient.

The treatments can be devised in such a way that they kill cancer cells while leaving healthy tissue unharmed.

All body sites are treated with the LINAC utilizing conventional procedures.

“Our old LINAC had already failed, and we needed to replace it in order to continue serving cancer patients.” Fortunately, the President granted our request, and they provided us with this gadget,” Dalid explained.

Cancer patients from other provinces outside the Davao Region, according to Go, can also benefit from the new technology.

“You don’t need to travel to Davao City because everything you need is right here.” “I’m glad we can help them alleviate the stress of having to drive a long distance to acquire medication,” he said.
