According to a report, China’s development of renewable energy has accelerated in 2021, providing a strong basis for the nation’s pursuit of its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality targets.

According to research published by the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, the nation’s use of renewable energy last year was equal to saving 750 million tonnes of conventional coal, which contributed to a 1.95 billion ton reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

According to the report, China’s installed renewable energy capacity surpassed one billion kilowatts in 2021, or 44.8% of the nation’s total installed power capacity.

According to the report, the nation’s renewable energy produced 2.48 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2021, making up 29.7% of all power generated.

According to the report, the nation’s installed renewable energy capacity exceeded 1.1 billion kilowatts at the end of May this year, setting a new record high.

It noted that the quick growth of renewable energy has helped to create a clean, low-carbon, secure, and efficient energy system.

According to China’s announcement, it will work to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 and reach a peak in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.

To strengthen its energy structure, the nation is making strides in the production of renewable energy.

In accordance with a five-year plan unveiled earlier this month, by 2025, the nation will produce 3.3 trillion kWh of electricity annually from renewable sources, saving 1 billion tonnes of conventional coal in the process.

According to the plan, China will speed up the building of storage facilities and improve its power systems to include intelligent features in an effort to support the rise of renewable energy.
