According to Malacanang, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with his Cabinet in a special session on Friday to go over the projected 2023 budget.

The 2023 budget will be discussed at a special Cabinet meeting today, July 29, according to a statement from the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) distributed to Palace media.

An excerpt of the meeting between Marcos and his Cabinet was also made available on the state-run Radio Television Malacanang (RTVM) channel.

According to RTVM, the meeting took place in the Aguinaldo State Dining Room of Malacaan Palace.

Malacanang has not yet offered more information regarding the meeting.

Amenah Pangandaman, the budget secretary, had stated that the projected PHP5.268 trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2023 is something her office hopes to pass on time.

The proposed national budget for 2023 is PHP4.9 trillion more than the national budget for this year.

According to Pangandaman, Marcos intends to adhere to the schedule and pass the suggested budget by the end of this year.

Education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture are the areas of the budget plan for 2023 that will receive the most financing, according to Pangandaman.

The NEP must be submitted to Congress in accordance with the 1987 Constitution within 30 days of the start of the regular session of Congress, which also marks the time of the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The Fourth Monday in July must always be used for the SONA, according to the Constitution.

The first SONA for Marcos was conducted on July 25.
