For COVID-19, NCR and Cordillera are at moderate risk: DOH

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the National Capital Region (NCR) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are at moderate risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the DOH official in charge, stated in a media forum that the average daily attack rates (ADAR) of NCR and CAR had surpassed the five incidents per 100,000 population barrier.

“Bukod sa NCR, ang CAR ay kasama na rin sa moderate risk classification na may ADAR na 6.10 cases per 100,000 population habang 8.67 naman ang NCR per 100,000 population,” she said. “Aside from NCR, CAR is also under the moderate risk classification with an ADAR of 6.10 cases per 100,000 population, while it’s 8.67 per 100,000 population for NCR.

The nation continues to be categorized as low risk, with an ADAR of 3.13 cases per 100,000 people.

The majority of regions have seen case rises during the last week or two.

Calabarzon’s ADAR of 4.8 cases per 100,000 people is almost low enough to qualify for the moderate risk category.

From July 29 to August 4, we recorded 25,967 instances across the country. In the past week, there have been an average of 3,710 new cases per day, and this number is continuing to rise, according to Vergeire.

She continued, “This is 16 percent more than last week and most likely at the same number of instances from the second week of February of this year. Mas mataas po ito ng nakaraang linggo at tinatayang nasa.”

All areas are still experiencing an upward trend, with Luzon’s remaining regions growing at the quickest rate in recent days, reporting more than 1,000 cases daily.

Less than 800 cases per day in recent days have indicated a plateauing of infections in the NCR Plus regions and Mindanao.

The usage rate in one location has also increased as a result of these developments.

According to Vergeire, “The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)] with 96 active cases is now under) intermediate risk ICU use, reporting two severe and critical among all hospital admissions.”

“On the other hand, Region 6 and Calabarzon are close to reaching the threshold for healthcare system capacity with) more than 40% total bed utilization,” she continued. “Sa kabilang banda, sa Region 6 [Western Visayas] at 4A [Calabarzon], malapit nang umabot sa threshold for healthcare system capacity na mayroon nang silang.”

Due to them, the nation’s optimism rating increased from 15.2 percent last week to 18 percent this week.

Hospitals across the country continue to admit fewer than 1,000 patients with severe and critical conditions, but a small but steady increase has been noted since early July.

Currently, 8.95 percent of all hospital admissions—or roughly 833 cases—are categorized as severe and critical.

Recent weeks have seen an increase in moderate instances among hospital admissions, rising to 42.13 percent, while only 14.9% of patients are asymptomatic.

Vergeire stated that while the number of specialized Covid-19 beds has fallen by 758 or three percent, the overall number of admissions has climbed by 819 or 11%.

The intensive care unit (ICU) use rose by 131, or 25 percent, while the number of beds designated for the ICU fell by 167, or 6 percent, over the previous week.

Despite the fact that the Covid-19 bed occupancy is presently at 31% and the ICU utilization is already at 26%, the country’s healthcare utilization rate still falls under the low-risk category.
