This city is hosting a five-day Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation (F2C2) Program Mindanao-wide Cluster Summit organized by the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11).

Abel James Monteagudo, regional director for DA-11, stated on Wednesday that the August 15-19 summit aims to assist small farmers and fishermen in establishing stronger ties to their respective commodity markets.

Monteagudo remarked that the DA and other government agencies find it simpler, more cost-efficient, and more effective to cluster farmers.

It is easier to provide them with appropriate training and cutting-edge technologies, such as farm inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, as well as farm equipment and machinery, according to a statement by Monteagudo.

He stated that the summit would also pave the way for improved access to sources of credit and financing, as well as the formation of “big brother-small brother” joint ventures between the participants.

“When you are organized, you become large, and your voices are audible to everyone,” said Monteagudo.

Senator Cynthia Villar, chair of the agriculture committee, stated in a video message that F2C2 intends to improve the circumstances of small farmers and fishers by adopting a strategy of clustering and consolidation of their production and marketing activities.

“The program shall give priority to community production and processing that promotes better coordination, an organized value chain, and increased productivity, as opposed to the small, isolated farming and fishing practices of the past,” said Villar.
