Alexander Ramos has been appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the new head of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) affiliated agency in charge of all cybersecurity-related duties.

According to Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Ramos has been named Executive Director V of the DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center.

Malacanang has not yet made Ramos’ appointment document public.

Ramos previously held the position of senior cyber security advisor at the DICT.

According to Cruz-Angeles, Mary Rose Magsaysay has also been appointed as the CICC’s deputy executive director in addition to Ramos.

Patricia May Abejo, Rojun Hosillos, and Alvin Miro Navarro are three further new CICC appointees who will all hold the position of Director IV.

The CICC, established after Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, was approved, is in charge of developing a national cybersecurity plan and promoting global cooperation on cybersecurity-related intelligence.

Additionally, it acts as the principal agency in overseeing the prosecution and law enforcement of cybercrime cases handled by participating agencies, and it makes recommendations for the passage of pertinent legislation in accordance with its mandate.

It is also charged with leading government efforts in the Philippines to safeguard the nation, its institutions, and its people from cybercrime.

To aid in the country’s fight against online child exploitation and sexual abuse, the CICC introduced the first and most advanced Digital Forensics Platform and Laboratory in June of this year.
