DHSUD strengthens PBBM’s Visayas priority housing program
In order to support President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s priority housing initiative in the Visayas, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is increasing stakeholder participation.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Acuzar traveled for two days in important Visayan cities, meeting with mayors there, including Jonas Cortes of Mandaue City, Alfred Romualdez of Tacloban City, Albee Benitez of Bacolod City, Jerry Treas of Iloilo City, and Art Defensor of Iloilo.
During their visit to the Visayas, the DHSUD team met with a number of mayors in the province of Iloilo.
Acuzar toured a number of potential housing project locations in the area and introduced local government unit (LGU) authorities to the national housing initiative of the Marcos administration.
The DHSUD emphasized the important part LGUs played in the Marcos administration’s program to address the housing shortage in the nation and relocate families of informal settlers to safer areas.
ISFs and persons residing in calamity-prone locations were found in substantial numbers in Visayas’ major cities and provinces. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize the Visayas group of islands, according to Acuzar.
In order to improve the lives of our kababayans, who long for a decent, cheap, and sustainable home of their own, we must heed President Marcos’ appeal for unity, he continued.
The over 6.5 million housing backlog, which includes the estimated 3.7 million ISFs nationwide, is one of the administration’s top priorities.
The majority of the local leaders declared their support for the Marcos administration’s housing plan and indicated that they were prepared to allocate land resources for the creation of new project sites, including converting esteros into parks and walkways to aid in the rehabilitation and restoration of our waterways.
For the benefit of all of our citizens, especially those in the lower income bracket, Acuzar added, “I am confident in the assistance of our LGUs to develop and turn these informal settlements into premier residential and world-class developments.”
