In Barcelona town, Sorsogon province, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Bicol (BFAR-5) has provided technical assistance training in fish processing.

Twenty members of the Poblacion Fisherfolk Association engaged enthusiastically in the two-day technological course, the BFAR-5 spokesperson Nonie Enolva said in a statement to the local media on Monday.

The two-day session (Sept. 6-7) was a component of the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination’s objective training program to enable participants to produce high-quality, value-added goods, according to Enolva.

She claimed that during the course, lectures and a real demonstration were given.

The participants were able to make 130 pieces of fish “polvoron” or “fishvoron,” 10 packs of fish longanisa (sausage), 18 bottles of seaweed pickles, and 12 packs of fish patties.

“Salamat sa BFAR at sa LGU (local government unit) na nabigyan kami ng ganitong training,” said Alma Borabien, a participant from the Poblacion Fisherfolk Association. If at all possible, passukan na naman po ang itong tulong sa aming mga nanay, kailangan namin ng extra income at hanapbuhay. It’s imperative that you simulate a negotiation between two parties if you want to get the most out of your training. Thank you BFAR and LGU for this training, maraming salamat po. This is a huge benefit for mothers like us, especially now that schools have resumed and we need additional revenue to support our families. On the basis of what we learnt from this course, we will try our best to launch a small business. I appreciate it very much.

In the meantime, BFAR recently delivered 20 30-foot fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) boats with engines and other necessary attachments to 20 citizens of the province of Masbate.
