While the whole frontline crew of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) engaged in emergency response is on a “no day off, no leave” condition, all 71 pumping stations in the National Capital Region (NCR) are fully functioning to reduce flooding.

The MMDA said on Sunday that its metro base’s closed-circuit television cameras are monitoring the situation in NCR as the nation braces for Super Typhoon Karding’s repercussions.

Frontline troops are prepared to deploy at any time. They are trained in water rescue, search, rescue, and retrieval operations, according to a statement from acting MMDA chair Carlo Dimayuga III.

Meanwhile, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) declared that its staff and systems are prepared to respond swiftly to power disruptions.

Joe Zaldarriaga, vice president and head of corporate relations for Meralco, said in a statement that “as a 24-hour service provider, we are ready to respond to these types of crises, on standby to attend to any difficulty that may affect our facilities in places hit by the typhoon.”

According to Zaldarriaga, Meralco frequently asks billboard owners and operators to temporarily roll up their signs to protect them from being knocked over by strong winds or falling onto power lines, which could result in blackouts.

In the event of flooding, Meralco advised turning off the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker, unplugging appliances from wall sockets, turning off permanently attached equipment, and, if possible, unscrewing all light bulbs.

Electrical appliances that have been flood-damaged should be dried out and tested before use, while electrical wires, connectors, and other wiring components must be entirely dry.
