The “Karding” has destroyed 21 healthcare facilities.
A health official reported Tuesday that Typhoon Karding’s assault over the weekend caused damage to 21 healthcare facilities countrywide.
In a press conference, Maria Rosario Vergeire, the official in charge of the Department of Health (DOH), stated that the reported damage was minimal and that no Covid-19 vaccines had been damaged by the typhoon.
According to our assessment, there were leaky roofs, damaged roofs, and flooded portions of the facilities, so these are the things we have observed. “Mayroong tumulo ang bubong, mayroong natuklap ‘yung bubong, mayroong ‘yung mga parte ng mga facilities natin ay nabaha,” she said.
Just to be clear, Vergeire stated that there were no service interruptions.
She made no mention of the locations of the destroyed facilities.
The DOH has coordinated the rehabilitation of the damaged facilities with the relevant agencies and local government units.
The DOH and the regional heads of the Centers for Health met on Monday to discuss how to prevent certain ailments brought on by the storm.
Every person who walked through the flood must receive prophylactic medications, which are provided without charge in our health centers, she said. “We have instructed all of them that this is the case and that everyone from the flooded area will need to receive prophylactic medications,” she added.
Vergeire also asked people who had crossed floodwaters to visit the closest medical facilities for testing and treatment in order to prevent leptospirosis.
