In October, Manila Water will provide free desludging.

The Manila Water Company (Manila Water) announced on Thursday that it would provide free desludging services to its clients in October to prevent septic tanks from overflowing, which damages Manila Water’s facilities and poses a threat risk to the neighborhood and the environment.

Dittie Galang, the head of Manila Water’s corporate communications division, emphasized the value of having household septic tanks drained every five to seven years to make sure that all collected septage is properly treated at Manila Water’s wastewater treatment facilities before being released into creeks, rivers, and other waterways.

Galang stated that “access to clean water and sanitation has been the foundation of Manila Water’s service.” As a result, Galang said, “we make sure services like septic tank desludging would be freely accessible to our clients.”

Galang continued, “Following our environmental advocacy of Toka Toka, the first and only environmental movement in the nation that advocates proper management of wastewater in every household, we call on our customers to make routine septic tank desludging and maintenance of their “toka” or an important share in reviving our rivers and waterways.

Residents of the following barangays will be able to use the desludging services provided by Manila Water in October:

  • Marikina City’s Barangays San Roque, Calumpang, Sto. Nino, Sta. Elena, Nangka, and Fortune;
  • the Quezon City barangays of Culiat, Paligsahan, Matandang Balara, Marilag, Mangga, Kaunlaran, Valencia, and Immaculate Conception;

  • the Mandaluyong City barangays of Buwayang Bato, Hulo, Plainview, and Welfareville Compound;

The desludging caravan will also stop by the Rizal provincial barangays of San Isidro, Dalig, and Dela Paz in Antipolo City, as well as Barangay Darangan in Binangonan town.

Customers of Manila Water can call the company’s consumer desk hotline at (02) 1627 or visit their barangay halls to confirm the precise dates for desludging in their barangays.
