OVP prevents needless repetition of relief operations.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) stated on Friday that it is determined to avoid the needless duplication of operations and relief efforts for the general population.
During a news conference, OVP spokesperson Reynold Munsayac stated that they had already determined the target areas affected by Typhoon Karding.
The emergency operations center was established two days before the bag was released. There are a few areas that we will be targeting. Ayaw namin ng duplication, hindi naman namin gagawing magbigay para mapicturan lang na meron kaming binigay doon sa area na hindi naman kailangang kailangan (Two days before to the typhoon’s arrival, our disaster operations center was ready… We have distribution areas in mind. He said that we don’t want duplication and won’t even dare to donate, only to get a picture of us giving aid to those who might not need it.
They also include water and food supplies prepared for distribution, such as noodles and biscuits.
Before the typhoon’s landfall, the OVP praised local government units’ (LGUs’) preparedness.
“So far, we have seen that the LGUs made outstanding preparations for the previous typhoon. Halimbawa ‘yung Quezon, nag-evacuate na sila bago pa tumama ‘yung Karding at ‘yung ibang probinsya, prepositioned na rin ‘yung ibang relief supplies are just a few examples. Even in other provinces, their rescue supplies were already prepositioned; Quezon (province), for instance, had evacuated before Karding landed, he claimed.
During the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding, five rescuers lost their lives performing their courageous duty, according to Munsayac, who added that the OVP has also conveyed its condolences to their families.
“The OVP team went to Bulacan to pay respects to the deceased family of our rescuers, and they expressed [Vice President Sara Z. Duterte’s] deepest sympathies,” he stated.
Since July 1, 11,832 recipients have received about PHP127 million in medical and funeral assistance, according to Munsayac, as of September 23.
The OVP and the Health Department have provided PHP10.09 million in medical support to 732 impoverished patients and PHP1.24 million to help 451 people experiencing crises.
Meanwhile, since August 3rd, 76,366 Filipino commuters have benefited from the OVP’s Libreng Sakay (free rides) program.
