PH and Saudi Arabia are considering collaborating on green energy, digital infrastructure, and agriculture.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced on Friday that the Philippines and Saudi Arabia would reach an agreement for a potential expansion of their relationship in agriculture, digital infrastructure, and renewable energy.

This came about when Marcos received a courtesy call from Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Saudi Arabian minister of foreign affairs, on Thursday at Malacanang Palace in Manila.

In a Facebook post, Marcos promised to strengthen connections with Prince Faisal.

He said it is part of our commitment to fortify links between our countries and to work together in several areas, including green energy and digital infrastructure.

In particular, Marcos continued about green energy, digital infrastructure, and agriculture, “We are keen to deepen our links and increase our partnership.”

Marcos also expressed his gratitude to Prince Faisal for the Saudi Arabian government’s recognition of and assistance to Filipino foreign workers (OFWs).

He stated, “We expressed our heartfelt appreciation for their government’s concern for the wellbeing of our overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia.

With around 860,000 Filipino workers now residing there, Saudi Arabia is at the top of the list of nations that accept OFWs.

The two countries have already collaborated to address labor mobility and human rights issues.

The Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Bahrain hosted a conference to examine policy innovations and strategies to guarantee decent work for migrant workers in May 2022, which was held concurrently with the International Migration Review Forum.

In October 1969, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic ties.
