DILG advises local heads to promote the vaccination campaign on assembly days.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) asked representatives of the 42,046 barangays in the nation on Thursday to use the barangay assembly days scheduled for this month to encourage their constituents to get immunized against the 2019 coronavirus sickness (Covid-19).
“We request that the Punong Barangays (PBs) and other representatives carry out their duties and organize Barangay Assembly Days. Benjamin Abalos Jr., secretary of the DILG, said, “I hope the barangays seize this occasion to engage their constituents and encourage them to be vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19.
Use this as a platform to update your citizens on your barangays’ initiatives and successes, and talk about problems and future goals, advised Abalos.
Abalos advised barangay chiefs to use the opportunity of the barangay assembly to ask residents to participate in government vaccination initiatives like PinasLakas and to emphasize the benefits of getting boosted and immunized against Covid-19.
He added that they needed to let people know that Covid-19 booster shots are now available in their workplaces, bus stops, and pharmacies.
According to Department of Health records, as of October 11, 20,195,895 Filipinos have received Covid-19 booster shots, 73,342,216 Filipinos have received their initial vaccinations in full, and 70,756,003 have received their first dosage.
According to Abalos, the barangay assembly may be held in person, online, or using a combination of both.
According to the Local Government Code and Proclamation 599, series of 2018, barangays must hold barangay assemblies on any Saturday or Sunday between March and October to hear and discuss the Sangguniang Barangay’s semester report regarding its operations, finances, and issues.
The subject of Barangay Assembly Day for the second semester of 2022 is “Barangayanihan: Barangay at Mamamayan.” The phrase “Sama-sama sa Pagtaguyod ng Bayanihan Tungo sa Mas Ligtas at Maunlad na Pamayanan” is in keeping with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
testing threats against journalists
Abalos promised to check into the murder threats against TV5 broadcast journalists Ed Lingao and Lourd De Veyra as this was happening.
According to a recent tweet from “Seth Corteza of Metrosun,” “Balita ko may dalawa pang kasama sa kontrata na itutumba pero di ko alam ang eksaktong oras at petsa o lugar.” (What I know is that there are two more people listed in the contract who must be killed, but I don’t know the precise time or location.) Sila Ed Lingao at Lourd sa TV5. They used TV5’s Ed Lingao and Lourd.
Abalos added, “We will have the (Anti) Cybercrime (Group) look into this, and we will have this tracked.
Abalos urged media professionals once more to alert authorities immediately to any threats to their safety.
“The journalists can always visit our office. Please let us know if there is any threat at all. That is (of the DILG) a priority, he continued.
According to Lingao, the tweet was sent out the day after Percival Mabasa, popularly known as Percy Lapid, a radio host, was fatally murdered by two gunmen in Las Pias on October 3.
