Chief of DBM recognized by PAO as an outstanding public servant
Amenah Pangandaman, the budget secretary, added another accolade to her resume when the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) recognized her as an Outstanding Public Servant.
Pangandaman posted a picture of the trophy, ribbon, and certificate of appreciation she received from the PAO on her official Facebook page. It shows a blindfolded Lady Justice holding a sword in one hand and scales in the other.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Public Attorney’s Office for honoring me as an Outstanding Public Servant. You may be sure I will always give my all to serve our nation,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
The Commission on Appointments (CA), with Enrique Manalo as Foreign Affairs Secretary, certain diplomats, and a Judicial and Bar Council member, confirmed Pangandaman’s appointment to the position of Budget chief late last month (JBC).
In a previous statement, she swore to “serve with integrity” and exert all reasonable efforts to improve the lives of Filipinos.
Pangandaman also promised to collaborate with the other arms of government to bring about long-lasting change and reform, with the digitalization of bureaucracy as her primary priority.
She stated, “As the Budget Secretary of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, I will support his economic vision and agenda and declare my resolve to fully collaborate with the various branches of government to bring about long-lasting change and transformation.”
Pangandaman is the only Muslim in the Marcos Cabinet and the second woman to lead the Department of Budget and Management.
She worked as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ Assistant Governor before being named the Budget Secretary. During the previous president Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, she also served as the budget undersecretary.
She holds an Economics degree from the Far Eastern University, a Development Economics diploma, and a master’s degree from the University of the Philippines.
She is now on leave from her Executive Master of Public Administration program at the London School of Economics to assist the DBM.
The PAO helps the needy and the poor with their legal needs.
