The Supreme Court (SC) issued the status quo ante order (SQAO) on the Magsasaka party-list dispute, and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared on Thursday that it would be adhered to.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said, “We will abide, respect, and act properly.”

According to Garcia, Robert Gerard Nazal Jr.’s designation as the Magsasaka Party-list representative will not be the subject of any announcements.

He added, “We shall hold off on issuing any document recognizing Mr. Nazal as the valid nominee of Magsasaka PL in the interim.

On September 14 last year, the National Board of Canvassers declared Nazal, the rightful representative of the Magsasaka party list. On October 10, he recently took the oath of office to serve as a representative for the party-list coalition.

In response to the petition submitted by former Magsasaka Partylist Rep. Argel Joseph Cabatbat, the SQAO was released on October 18.

The SC ordered both parties to retain the current situation before the NBOC proclamation on September 14 “until further orders.”
