The list of regular holidays and unique non-working days for 2023 has been amended by Malacanang to include “long weekends.”

Proclamation 90 alters Proclamation 42, which identifies the regular holidays and extraordinary non-working days, and was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on November 11 of last year.

The proclamation stated that “there is a need to adapt these holidays in accordance with the theory of holiday economics,” which holds that “a longer weekend will assist boost domestic travel and increase tourism spending in the country.”

A special non-working day will also be added on January 2, 2023, a Monday, “in respect of the Filipino tradition of visiting relatives and spending time with their families for this occasion,” according to the proclamation.

Proclamation 90 has already declared January 1st, 2023, a normal holiday.

Araw ng Kagitingan is now observed on April 10, 2023, the closest Monday to its original date of April 9, 2023, as a result of Proclamation 90.

The proclamation stated that Monday, April 10, 2023, might be designated a non-working holiday in place of Sunday, April 9, 2023, “to enable our people to take advantage of the benefits of a long weekend, provided that the historical significance of Araw ng Kagitingan is maintained.”

The proclamation also changes the date of Bonifacio Day to Nov. 27, 2023, which is the next available Monday to Nov. 30, 2023, the original date.

The annual holiday known as Bonifacio Day, which is celebrated on November 30 of every year, falls on a Thursday in 2023. The proclamation said that in accordance with RA No. [Republic Act No.] 9492, the Monday closest to November 30th, 2023, maybe proclaimed a non-working holiday, while Thursday, 2023, may be declared a working day.

Regular and exceptional holidays are now observed on the closest Monday according to Republic Act (RA) 9492, which former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed into law.

For 2023, the following days have been designated as regular holidays and exceptional occasions:
