MMDA is prepared for heavy traffic following the holidays.

As visitors are scheduled to return to the city by January 3, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) stated on Wednesday that it is prepared for the anticipated traffic congestion in Metro Manila following the holiday season.

MMDA deputy chairperson Frisco San Juan Jr. stated during a Laging Handa public briefing that the organization has worked with local government units, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of Transportation, as well as bus companies to clear the city’s main thoroughfares of traffic.

“Walang pasok ang mga opisina ng pamahalaan, ang buhos ng sasakyan siyempre sa darating na Martes sapagkat sa Lunes ay holiday po. And on January 3, there will be a review of the private enterprises’ pagpasoks and all other kinds of eskuwelahans. A rise in vehicle volume is anticipated on Tuesday due to Monday being a holiday, therefore po tayo riyan sapagkat taun-taon ay iyan naman ang pinaghahandaan. Offices run by the government are not working. And on January 3, businesses and educational institutions will reopen. We anticipate that every year, so we are prepared for it “explained San Juan.

According to San Juan, Metro Manila’s daily traffic flow has reached 420,000 to 430,000 automobiles, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

However, he saw a rise in the rate of transit along the Edsa, noting that it is faster than the pre-pandemic speed of 11 km/h.
