Calapan’s biggest port passenger terminal will debut in March.
By March, the public is expected to be able to visit the Port of Calapan in the province of Oriental Mindoro, which is home to the largest port passenger terminal building (PTB) in the nation.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago stated the PTB is currently 98 percent finished with a target completion date of February 18 during a surprise inspection of the construction Port of Calapan on Tuesday.
According to the Port Management Office of Mindoro’s (Mindoro PMO) evaluation, the PTB is currently 17 percent ahead of schedule, and its inauguration is scheduled for March of this year.
The PTB’s construction cost PHP353 million, and its maximum capacity is 3,500 passengers at once.
It has a number of amenities like a playroom for kids, a clinic, a contemporary elevator and escalator, a prayer room, and a breastfeeding station designed to enhance the experience of travelers.
According to PPA Mindoro PMO Port Manager Elvis Medalla, one of the most important factors in the development of the new PTB was the welfare of the passengers.
In order to provide the public with world-class amenities and great service as they wait for their trips, Medalla said, “This is genuinely for the passengers of Calapan Port.”
One of the biggest passenger ports in the nation, the Port of Calapan, has recently come under fire when social media images showed lengthy queues of travelers on January 3.
In response, Santiago pointed out that there were not enough ships over the holiday season, with just roughly 22 excursions available at the Port of Calapan on January 1, 2, and 3, as opposed to an average of 55 daily departures at the port prior to the holidays.
He brought the lack of ships to the attention of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and the Philippine Coast Guard because PPA lacks direct authority over commercial ship operators (PCG).
