The third annual “Tan-ok ni Ilocano” Film Festival will take place.

The Tan-ok ni Ilocano Film Festival’s third installment is back on the big screen, showcasing at least six brief documentaries and two fiction films that highlight the varied culture, values, and customs of the local community.

Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc promised the local artists and talents that the Ilocs Norte province administration is prepared to revitalize the multimedia industry in his brief remark prior to the movie showing at Robinsons Movieworld Ilocos.

“As we all know, culture and the arts are effective tools for developing community cohesion as well as pride in one’s background. When pledging support for the arts, Manotoc remarked, “The provincial government has incorporated these tools in our leadership in the province by producing premier cultural events and launching greater movement within the artistic industry.

Aianree Raquel, the provincial tourism officer, expressed his hope that more filmmakers will be motivated to enter the regional competition and showcase their creativity to the world during a press conference on Saturday.

The chosen submissions are exhibited for free on February 11โ€“12 and February 18โ€“19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Robinsons Place Ilocos Movieworld.

Prior to this, at least three documentaries produced during the first-ever Tan-ok ni Ilocano Online Film Festival of the Ilocos Norte government were screened at both domestic and international film festivals.

These include the Carlo Alvarez-founded Blackbox Studios production “Panagwawagi” (Brotherhood) by Gabb Gantala, which won the top honor at the Rad Fest Short Film Competition 2021.

A Singapore-based video entertainment platform that honors and celebrates the most popular Asian short film on Viddsee each month also nominated it for the “Film of the Month” title of the Viddsee Shortee Award.

Like this, “Ang Mga Nawalang Pag-asa at Panlasa” (The Lost Sense of Hope and Taste) by Kevin Jay Ayson was named one of the 13 short feature finalists at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in 2021 and received the 2nd Best Film award.

The International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) has chosen Melver Ritz Gomez’s “Iyallatiw” (To Transfer) as an official entry, and it has been screened at the Diwa Filipino Film Showcase of Seattle in Washington, USA. Additionally, “Iyallatiw” was selected for the Viddsee Juree Awards in 2021.

A fraternity that could endure different, timeless situations and tough periods is portrayed in “Panagwawagi.”

In “Ang Mga Nawalang Pag-asa at Panlasa,” the struggles of Ilocano food entrepreneurs are described in the context of the pandemic, while “Iyallatiw” depicts an oral tradition that is on the verge of extinction in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, and how a “manglualo” (prayer leader) will pass it down to the next generation.

The Ilocos Norte government supported the regional filmmakers by giving each entry a PHP50,000 seed grant.
