According to data released on Friday by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Palawan, headline inflation decreased in the province from 9.0 percent in March to 6.9 percent in April.

In a live-streamed press briefing, the chief statistics specialist for PSA in Palawan, Maria Lalaine Rodriguez, stated that the easing of price pressures was particularly noticeable in this capital city.

According to her, local inflation slowed down last month from its 5.9 percent level in March to 4.6 percent.

Rodriguez primarily credited the province’s lower inflation rates to the robust performance of the agricultural and fishing industries, which have recently produced abundant harvests.

It was reported that Palawan’s food output increased as a result of the recent repeal of a locally enforced fishing prohibition on several marine species, including galunggong (mackerel scad). This reduced food inflation.

According to data expert Delia Eleazar, food inflation in April dropped from a two-digit high of 17.3 percent in the previous month to 5.0 percent.

“Food prices increased significantly in March. Poor fish harvest due to climate change, which led to strong winds in the ocean, making it undesirable for fishing activities, was one reason for this, she stated in Filipino.
