Despite the ongoing turmoil at Mayon Volcano, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed relief that the displaced families in Albay province are still in “good condition.”

In his weekly video on his official Facebook page, Marcos stated that he went to Albay to see how the evacuees were doing.

“Natin pinuntahan ang ating mga kababayan sa Bicol at apektado sa pagputok ng Bulkang Mayon. Currently, the naabutan that I am using is really maayos and the evacuees’ kalagayan is beautiful. When the opportunity arose, we visited our countrymen in Bicol who were impacted by the instability caused by the Mayon Volcano. As far as we could tell, the evacuees were in decent health, stated Marcos.

Marcos also reaffirmed that the government is prepared to give the families who have been forced to leave their homes due to Mayon’s escalating volcanic activity the aid they require.

He conceded that the disturbance in Mayon might continue for a few months.

They might be need to flee for months until the Mayon Volcano’s activity ceases, according to Marcos. “Baka tumagal pa ng ilang mga buwan ang kanilang pagka-evacuate hanggang matigil na ang pagputok ng Bulkang Mayon,” he said.

“Kaya pinaghahandaan nating mabuti na kahit tumagal, ay handa ang pamahalaan na bigyan ng tulong doon sa mga na-evacuate sa six-kilometer radius ng Bulkang Mayon (That’s why, we are making sure that if it lasts for months, the government is ready to provide assistance to those who evacuate because they are living within the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone of Mayon Volcano).”

Marcos stressed that the government must be “sensitive” to the needs of the affected residents in Albay province in a media interview conducted on the sidelines of the International Trade Forum on Thursday at the Shangri-La The Fort in Taguig City.

Due to the Mayon Volcano’s unrest, approximately 18,000 people have been compelled to stay in the province’s six towns and two cities that serve as evacuation centers.

Marcos paid a visit to the Guinobatan Community College evacuation center on Wednesday to inspect the situation of the families who had been forced to flee and to oversee the delivery of government aid.

Marcos stated that during the anticipated maximum time of the volcano’s unrest, predicted to be 90 days, concerned government entities must provide relief assistance to Mayon evacuees.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect for Mayon Volcano.
